Description
Bound Society Mask-Mende-Sierra Leone. The Mende People of Sierra Leone are one to the few groups in which women use masks in the ceremonies. The Bundu mask represents the guardian spirit of young women who are preparing themselves for adult responsibilities. To the Mende, the bulging neck is a sign of beauty and also represents the well fed appearance of the young women during their initiation period. This is Oudadoogu, Burkina Faso Fetish of Iroko wood.
